Water Commission / League Meeting

Gary Patton, Land Use Report, KUSP, Monday, January 7, 2013

On Wednesday, January 9th, the League of Women Voters of the Monterey Peninsula will be hosting one of their monthly “Lunch and Learn” meetings. These informative sessions are held at the Unitarian Universalist Church, located at 490 Aguajito Road in Carmel. Lunch is at 12:00 noon, with a presentation at 12:30. There is a $15 charge for the lunch, which will be provided by Café Athena. You do need to make a reservation if you want to eat! I have put more information in the transcript of today’s Land Use Report. The kicker to this announcement is that I am going to be the speaker at the League’s meeting. The topic is: “Keeping Government Honest: How Do We Do This?” If you would like to hear my thoughts, and learn a little bit about the Public Records Act, the Brown Act, and our laws relating to conflicts of interest, I hope you’ll sign up and be there!

If you have a more immediate need to take in a meeting, why not think about attending the next meeting of the Santa Cruz City Water Commission? That meeting is scheduled tonight at 7:00 p.m. at the Santa Cruz City Council Chambers. I suspect that there will be at least some discussion of allegations of a possible conflict of interest between the City Water Director’s work for the public in general, and his service on the Board of Directors of a group that is dedicated to advancing desalination. Again, there is a link to more information in today’s transcript at
