Groundwater Planning Meeting Tuesday

Santa Cruz Sentinel, 9/7/14

The Soquel Creek Water District will honor National Protect Your Groundwater Day on Tuesday by hosting a groundwater stakeholder meeting to discuss pending state legislation that will significantly change how local water agencies can manage groundwater resources.

The district, Santa Cruz County and Central Water District have been working for the last several months with private well pumpers and other community stakeholders within the Soquel-Aptos groundwater basin to explore mutual issues. The district's sole water source is the basin, which is in a state of overdraft, and it is shared with other pumpers, including City of Santa Cruz, Central Water District, small mutual water companies, and private well owners.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at Soquel Congregational Church's Community Room, 4951 Soquel Drive. For information, visit
